OUR STORY
"A dream is a wish your heart makes."
This quote from a song in Cinderella stands out to me as something that is best described as a light in the dark at the very base of my photography journey.
We are blessed with a beautiful son who had quite a rough start to life. The 78 days we spent in the NICU took away so much, including something very important to me- our opportunity to have professional portraits done of our sweet new bundle of joy. As we watched each day, week, and month tick by, it became more and more apparent that we were missing out on so many things. I wholeheartedly believed there would be no happiness until we were home. Then, just when I was at my worst due to finding out we would not be home in time for his first Christmas, I heard her singing at the bedspace across from ours - the newest momma in the room. She joyfully sang from Cinderella to her new baby girl, oblivious to my gaze, and they looked into each others eyes as if they were the only two beings on earth. It was so precious it could have been in a movie. I watched them for a while and had to hide my tears as I realized, life is now! I hugged my son a little tighter and it was at that precise moment that I stopped wishing the days away and truly began to enjoy him.
When we were finally able to come home I bought a camera and started taking local classes and workshops, and volunteering my services wherever I could. I started with newborns, and along the way I have encountered more families in similar situations, many of whom were separated from their other children and would not have the luxury of sleeping their own bed for weeks, even months to come. I want to capture magical memories for families in tough situations like ours. That's why every paid session helps provide a free session to families who have had the unfortunate experience of calling the hospital their second home. I want to use A Heart's Wish Photography to be a light in the dark for as many families as I can.
